Former minister Gjergj Koja: Abuse in healthcare By AGRON LISI A 22-year-old woman, pregnant in the ninth month, lost her life in the early hours of yesterday morning at the Obstetric-Gynecological Hospital of Lezhë. Relatives of Lorena Imeri from the village of Shullaz in the Kurbin district claim that she was taken to the maternity hospital for a normal delivery, but died without undergoing any surgical intervention and without being able to bring her child into the world. According to the family, Lorena was in good health, and for about an hour after the onset of the pains they spoke with the doctors at the maternity hospital about the death of the 22-year-old and of the child she was expecting. Meanwhile, the director of the Lezhë maternity hospital, Llesh Marku, told the media that Lorena Imeri was received by doctors, but that she had severe cardiac complications, which did not allow surgical intervention to be carried out. Sources from this health institution explain that Imeri died within three minutes, after a cardiac attack. Continues on page 13
