The situation of budget revenues is the most difficult in the last two decades, except for 1997. The drastic decline in collections comes at a moment when the previous government has already used up most of the annual spending, which means that the current government needs around 240 million dollars more to close the year. These alarming budget indicators were presented yesterday by the Minister of Finance, Shkëlqim Cani, who said that in 2014 the government will be forced to significantly increase public debt, which could also reach 72% of gross domestic product. “The expectation for the level of debt in 2014 is 72-73% of GDP,” Cani said during a joint press conference with the representative of the International Monetary Fund, the Minister of Economy and the Governor of the Bank of Albania. “In this very negative revenue-collection performance, no more than 24 billion lek in additional debt are needed to close...”
