The deputy chairman of the Republican Party, Neritan Alibali, proposed that all opposition parties merge into a single party and have one parliamentary group, because according to him, only in this way will the right win the upcoming local elections of 2005. Mr. Alibali says it does not matter whether the new right-wing party will be called “Democratic” or “Republican”; what matters is that the right has only one parliamentary group. Mr. Alibali sees the chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, as the right politician who can bring about the unification of the right within two years. “I have said that Mr. Berisha is the historical leader of the right, while Mr. Basha is the chairman.
