Former owners and former political prisoners express dissatisfaction with the funds planned by the government in the 2014 budget for their compensation. For 2014, the owners will receive 100 million lek more from the state budget, while former political prisoners will receive 40% less. If a comparison is made between the two budgets, it appears that this year the owners were planned to receive 1 billion 100 million lek as part of the legalization fund, while another 200 million lek would be subsidized by the state, whereas for the coming year the amount that the state will allocate to this category remains modest. It does not even amount to 0.1% of Albania’s gross domestic product. Agim Toro, Secretary General of the association “Property with Justice,” said yesterday that with this amount only 40 to 50 cases could be settled, while there are hundreds more waiting for compensation. “The obligations that the government and the Albanian state have toward expropriated entities amount to 20 billion euros, ...
