"An independent Church makes its own decisions" GILBERTO JAÇE: THE COURT DECISION WAS IMPLEMENTED, THE BUILDING IS PROPERTY OF THE CITIZENS The conflict over the House of Culture, Kotrokoi meets the mayor: The way the intervention was carried out was not appropriate, let us not create difficult situations The conflict between Orthodox priests and the Municipality of Përmet regarding the building of the House of Culture, which for many years had been turned into the Church of "St. Mary" of the Bazaar, escalated in this city yesterday after the intervention of the Greek consul in Gjirokastër, Nikolas Kotrokoi. The diplomat from the neighboring country met with the mayor of Përmet, Gilberto Jaçe. The meeting was requested by Kotrokoi himself, in order to convey Greece’s position regarding the Church of Përmet. During this meeting, the Greek consul stressed that Greece, as a friendly and neighboring country of Albania, wants good relations and that the Church is an institution in its own right, and as such makes its own decisions. According to him, Athens’ concern had to do with the manner in which the decision was implemented. GREEK CONSUL "The meeting is part of the efforts made by both sides to engage in dialogue for the most optimal solution possible. We have friendly relations among us, Greece, as well as the diplomatic mission of Greece in Albania, want to build good relations. We are two neighboring countries and two friendly peoples, and we are obliged to have good relations with one another.
