About 10 percent of the water samples taken in the last month of 2013 in Tirana tested positive for microbiological contamination or, in other words, were outside the E. coli standard. The figures are reported by the Institute of Public Health, which, after cross-checking the data received from other cities, states that water contamination above the permitted standard is also found in 6 other cities. The city with the highest level of contamination is Koplik, with a full 47 percent of samples, followed by the city of Lezha, with 26.44% of the reported samples. High levels of contamination were also found in Has (23% of samples) and Peshkopi (13% of samples). The level of E. coli is reported to be somewhat lower in
