Experts: Drugs and morphine were used, we cannot analyze the heart By KLODIANA LALA The scandal over the mistreatment to death of Ilia Karel, in the Greek prison of Nigrita, is deepening even further. Forensic experts in Albania were unable to determine whether the heart that was brought to Albania by a prosecutor and an expert, after having been kept in Greece, belongs to Karel or not. “Because of the drugs and morphine used in Greece for the expertise, it is not possible to determine the DNA; therefore we cannot determine whether the heart organ belongs to Ilia Karel or not,” says the response that Forensic Medicine sends back to the Fier prosecutor’s office. To retrieve Ilia Karel’s heart in Greece, a prosecutor and a Forensic Medicine expert traveled there, after the organ had been kept in Greece on the grounds that an examination had to be carried out. But although they managed to bring it back to Albania, it could not be determined whether the heart is Ilia Karel’s or belongs to someone else, which raises... On page 7
