The criteria: they must have lived in Albania for the last 5 years By OLA MITRE The new social security scheme, which comes into force on 1 January 2015, provides for a pension also for those people who do not meet the conditions to receive a full or reduced old-age pension. This concerns people who have not contributed to the social security scheme or those who have less than 15 years of insured work. Meanwhile, the changes made to the law “On social security” also define the conditions that the “disadvantaged” must meet in order to be beneficiaries of this pension. Thus, according to the law, the social pension is a benefit granted to every Albanian citizen who has reached the age of 70 and has permanent residence in Albania for at least the last five years.
