To be treated in a tertiary hospital center, you must undoubtedly have previously consulted the family doctor or specialist doctors. But what happens in a guideline that defines how the patient referral system should function is that, in practice, it is often not followed. This means that a sick person often goes straight to a specialist doctor without even going to the family doctor, while in even more extreme cases, for a simple virus they are immediately referred to a university hospital. Everything is followed by long queues of patients, overcrowding of hospitals, additional costs for healthcare institutions and, why not, even a lack of service.
