Yesterday the government approved the changes to the salaries of police officers, the effects of which will apply retroactively from 1 January 2014. According to the explanation given by the Ministry of the Interior, salaries have increased for the units, while some salaries have decreased because the “difficulty rate” has been applied, meaning that a police officer with the rank of “Chief Commissioner” who works in the field has a much higher salary increase coefficient than a police officer with the same rank who works in an office. The largest increase has been made for the lower levels, which are generally field officers. Meanwhile, for the entire table, the percentage benefit from the application of the progressive tax has not been calculated, which for lower salaries is much higher. (For example, if the salary of the rank of inspector has increased by 21%, together with the application of the progressive tax, the real salary increase goes above 25%).
