The Specialized Task Force Unit has, for days, seized and is scrutinizing the vast majority of tenders carried out by the Central Bank, amid suspicions of financial abuses by the leaders of the country’s most important financial institution. Among many voluminous case files, prosecutors also have in their hands the documents relating to the tender for the purchase of New Year’s cards (2013). Preliminary checks show that the Bank of Albania paid a sum of 12 million new lek (around 120 thousand USD) for the purchase of 7,700 cards, together with the envelopes and some pocket calendars, as well as some other small purchases.
