Lawsuit: The judge cashed in 2 million euros
ILDKP files a criminal complaint against the judge and his wife: They made 236 trips outside Albania at a cost of 250,000 euros. Gjin Gjoni responds: The assets were acquired before marriage
The High Inspectorate for the Declaration and Audit of Assets submitted yesterday to the General Prosecutor’s Office a criminal complaint against Judge Gjin Gjoni of the Tirana Court of Appeals, who is also a member of the High Council of Justice. He is suspected of concealing the sources of his wealth, falsifying various contracts with high financial values, buying vehicles or extremely expensive homes, making false declarations and hiding business activities owned by his wife, Elona Çaushi, estimated at an approximate value of 2 million euros. For travel abroad alone, judge Gjoni and his wife are said, according to ILDKP, to have spent nearly 250,000 euros, the source of which is also considered suspicious. In addition to the Gjoni couple, a criminal complaint has also been filed against the notaries Margena Çela and Gentiana Shkodra. All four are accused by ILDKP of the crimes of “concealing and falsely declaring assets in collaboration, falsifying documents....
