The organization of the Greek ethnic minority, the Party for Unity and Human Rights and the Republican Party in Himarë officially announce the decision for civil non-compliance with Law No. 7501, “On the division of agricultural land for use,” declaring that “the people of Himarë recognize only the properties inherited from their grandparents, based on Article 41 of the Constitution of Albania.” Through a three-point “ultimatum” addressed to the Albanian government on 19 June 2014, the holding of a local referendum is also announced “in which the people of Himarë will express their will to decide on their future,” should the proposal for the merger into a separate administrative unit of the Municipality of Himarë with the Lukovë Commune not be taken into consideration.
