By DARINA TANUSHI The Speaker of Parliament, Ilir Meta, was elected yesterday in the fourth round, with 87 votes in favor as president of the country, for a 5-year term. After all procedures were completed and following a proposal signed by 23 MPs from LSI and PDIU, but also with the support of all Socialist MPs, Meta is expected to officially take office on 24 July as head of the Albanian state. The vote was secret and counted, but the 2 votes against from the 89 MPs present were understood to be those of Ben Blushi and Mimoza Hafizi, since Blushi himself had announced that he would vote against. However, Meta was also not voted for by Tom Doshi, Gjovalin Kadeli, who is ill, and Eduart Ndocaj, in addition to the opposition. Meta remained seated yesterday in...
