In the first days of April 1861, two French travelers had set off on a highly unusual mission, personally assigned by Emperor Napoleon III (Louis Napoléon Buonaparte, nephew of the great Napoleon - 1808-
1873): archaeologist Léon Heuzey, member of the “Academy of Fine Arts” as well as the “Academy of Inscriptions and Literature” in Paris, and Honoré Daumet, architect and painter. They had departed from Marseille, in the south of France, on a special ship and, crossing the Mediterranean, they passed through the Ionian Sea, going deep into the Aegean, to reach Thessaloniki. From there, they took the road to ancient Macedonia, toward Pharsalus, where the famous and decisive battle between Caesar and ... had taken place
