With an invitation in hand that said “valid upon confirmation,” and with this latter [confirmation], we had hoped to arrive just 10 minutes beforehand. Yesterday, you had to go much earlier, to the Palace of Congresses for the President’s meeting with the capital’s intellectuals. How many intellectuals Albania must have! So many that they had to be lined up. And others were left outside. I was surprised when an elderly couple in front of me said they had only one invitation. Many others had certificates instead of invitations. The President’s people didn’t do these things. Because democracy is quickly ripening people, making them intellectuals before their time. Not a single seat was left empty in the Palace of Congresses. I waited in vain to meet someone I knew from the literary world. I didn’t meet anyone I knew from the literary world. In the [unclear: llo-shë] were Selami, Serreqi, Shehi, Kopliku. Standing alone in the [unclear: llo-shë] was Blerim Çela. Could it be a coincidence after the report about the cars in Parliament?!...
