All five at the Court of Appeal As part of the internationalization of the problems arising from the recent tensions between Albania and Greece, following the European Parliament’s resolution calling for the immediate release of the members of the minority and describing the judicial proceedings against them as a political trial, the second-instance hearing resumed yesterday in Tirana, at the Court of Appeal, at 08:00, before the presiding judge Raman Qinani, its members Xhoxhaj and Jahaj, and prosecutor Petrit Duka. During the hearing, which opened with Bezhan’s statement, the request by all five for acquittal stood out. Bezhan then asked, as an American citizen, to be defended by three American lawyers who were present in the courtroom. The defendant’s request was rejected by the bench. Immediately after this swift action, presiding judge Qinani read out the decision of the court of first instance, then giving the floor to the defence lawyers and their clients.
