TIRANA - At last, the verdict has been handed down for the three killers of two elderly women. “Incorrigible criminals.” That is what Judge Medi Biçi called the three defendants yesterday: Genci Vathi, Nazji Doraci and Fatmir Rama. He sentenced the first to life imprisonment, the second to 22 years in prison and the last to 20 years.
According to the court’s ruling, in January ’91 they had robbed the home of two elderly women in the Lapraka neighborhood, while the central figure in the crime, Genc Vathi, had stabbed both victims and strangled them with his hands as they slept. The case had lasted three years and, because of the defendants’ contradictory statements, had been returned to the Prosecutor’s Office six times.
