Open the files

Selami, Dokle, Ceka, Godo and Gjinushi speak out on the file issue Recently, Parliament is expected to discuss the opening of the files of the former State Security. Moves on this issue began as early as 10–12 years ago in Albania, by deputies from both the ruling side and the opposition, in implementation of the old policy of "class war" and "political cleansing." In recent times, the parties of the right-wing coalition, and PD as a supporter of this manipulation, have been joined by some right-wing forces from the opposition, that is, also by some of those who are now in PS and are labeled, and by a draft law for the "vetting of the moral purity of senior public officials and other persons linked to the protection of the democratic order." Thus, in Monday’s plenary session a number of right-wing deputies asked Parliament to open the files. First, those who are calling for the files to be opened found themselves in a difficult position, but later in the debate even the chairman of the PD parliamentary group, Sabri Godo, believes that they should be opened. Godo thinks that the other parliamentarians should decide to open the files. During the parliamentary session the debates were made into a matter of special order, leaving political debates aside. The author of this draft law, Justinian Serreqi of PD, said that he sought PD’s support in the hope that the right-wing forces would secure a majority by gaining 5 votes from PS. The fact that during these two weeks the debate has not taken place, although the parliamentary sessions have been crowded, shows that he underestimated the strength of the opposition. On Monday evening, although they were saying the files should be opened, Sabri Godo believes that the files should be opened and he closed this issue the previous Friday, after the two weeks that have passed since last Monday, hoping that the deputies’ conscience and their independent stance will help. According to him, it is time to clearly acknowledge that PDSH and PS should not hold Parliament hostage. The chairman of the PD parliamentary group, Sabri Godo, believes the files should be opened, while the right-wing deputy from the Balli Kombëtar party, Hysni Selfo, has already declared that he will not vote for this draft law. Condition of Albanian refugees in Italy

Border militants are not going to stop the landings Concern in Nallë as blockades are being strengthened at Italy’s sites. Although in the summer the influx of Albanian refugees from the Adriatic and Mediterranean coasts toward the Italian shores has increased significantly, border police and special units of the Italian army are on high alert to stop the landings. In this regard, control services have been reinforced in the Strait of Otranto, from Corfu in the Otranto Channel to Puglia, while these days the biggest attention is focused on the landings of refugees in rubber boats on the coasts of Vlora and Saranda. Yesterday, around 45 illegal entrants, among them Kazakhs and Africans as well as Albanians, apparently after departing from Saranda, landed in the morning on the coasts of Lecce. Previously, from this same area, an increase in the number of rubber boats departing with illegal emigrants toward the Italian shores has been observed. [BBC]
