Request for Nano's release rejected
Doko: “We do not expect a positive decision”
Yesterday at midday the judging panel chaired by Avni Krekseti rejected Fatos Nano’s request and that of his lawyers to change the pre-trial detention measure to conditional release. At least this is the fourth time in a year and a half that Fatos Nano has asked for freedom and a party. Fatos Nano has been in prison since 22 December 1993. There are three legal avenues that could offer him such a status. Starting from the second-instance court.
After the hearing ended, the PDS lawyer for this case, Spartak Ngjela, stated: “We regretted the decision of the day for such an order. Such a decision would have raised doubts about the continued stalling of the case. There are indications that not only does justice not give way, but it takes the side of politics. Keep the place away from political interference”.
“Resulted” he said exclusively only to the three reasons why the decision on his old conviction cannot be considered fair. It has the proof of the sacrifice of his past. Now the acquittal decision has three main elements. It has to be decided by the citizen and to separate the case with yesterday’s decision.
“I am convinced and I repeat that we should treat this as an unjust decision, on a broader scale. I await the reaction of the party and other people,” he told a reporter, making it known that the sentence will be appealed to the Court of Second Instance.
