The meeting of the DP National Council lasted 150 minutes, and at the outset, at Berisha’s proposal, the date for holding the DP Congress was set. The next DP Congress will be held on 4 April, while Berisha told the members of his Council that he would dissolve Parliament on 3 April. The President promised that two days after Parliament’s dissolution, he would consult with the parties on setting the date of the new elections. Although he has not announced the start of the campaign, yesterday’s DP Council also set the DP’s political and organizational platform for the upcoming campaign. “Let us go from house to house and convince people of the DP’s alternatives,” Berisha said yesterday.

The Tirana Court orders detention
On Sunday at noon, the Court of First Instance in the capital rejected the former President’s request to change the detention measure from prison to house arrest. Just 48 hours after Ramiz Alia was detained in prison last Friday under the “Anti-Genocide” and “Crimes against Humanity” laws, a hearing was held to assess this measure. Following yesterday’s decision, the former head of state will have to remain in the cells of Tirana prison until the investigation and trial of the case are concluded.
Wearing a gray jacket and no tie, accompanied by handcuffs and police officers, the former President returned at 12:00 to the residence he had left seven months earlier: the cells of the capital’s Ward 313. It is understood that, through his lawyer Koçi, an appeal against this decision will be sought in the Court of Appeal and the Court of Cassation.
