At the Court of Appeal Xhixha home soon Appeal court reduces sentence by 6 months TIRANA — The Court of Appeal has been “soft-hearted” toward Përparim Xhixha, former editor-in-chief of “ZP” and head of the PS company “Progresi”. It reduced his sentence yesterday by 6 months from the 2 years imposed by the court of first instance. Xhixha is dissatisfied with the amount of time he will have to serve in prison, although the Court of Cassation will ultimately decide his fate, and will determine whether he will appeal. It was Judge Sabri Rrapi who yesterday at midday upheld the second ruling concerning the editor-in-chief of the socialists’ newspaper, sentenced at the end of December last year “for misappropriation of funds provided by the state for public services.” The charge that put him behind bars in the summer of last year concerned the sum of 400 thousand dollars granted in 1990 by the solidarity fund for the establishment of a printing house in Canada. But the Court of Appeal judges reduced the two-year sentence imposed by the court of first instance by more than two months, leaving him with a year and a half in prison—the same term requested by prosecutor Elida Ceka.
