The Opposition Demonstrates Under Siege

PAD, PSD, PA, PUK, PS and all of Tirana surrounded by police The capital’s lockdown continues. For the third time, the opposition’s attempt to demonstrate against the manipulation of the elections has placed Tirana under a police lockdown. On 28 May and 4 June, the siege had its epicenter at the headquarters of the Socialist Party, while the headquarters of the Pole of the Center also became a second epicenter. For four years, the opposition has been seeking to demonstrate in Skënderbej Square in central Tirana. Since the PD came to power, this square has been seen only by PD supporters, people brought there by obligation, and the luxury cars of those in power on the occasion of important meetings. Yesterday’s police cordon began in the morning. The police notified all the owners of establishments in central Tirana, especially those around the PS building, to close their establishments at 1:00 p.m., or four hours before the announced start of the demonstration. At 2:00 p.m. the police began inspecting the establishments and removed people from those that had still not been closed in accordance with the order.
