A surprise in political life. The Socialists responded to the harsh attacks they recently launched against the opposition just one day later by inviting the DP to bilateral talks. A challenge, a ceasefire, or a desire for genuine dialogue? The Socialists want to use this meeting to prepare for a round table involving all political forces. The Council of Europe also called for this table to be set up, through a resolution approved a few days ago. “If the DP accepts bilateral talks, we are ready to discuss with them the arrangements for organizing the round table called for by the Strasbourg resolution.”

MILAN — A fire that broke out in a warehouse on the outskirts of Milan on Sunday morning helped four Albanian minors escape slavery.
During the firefighters’ operation to put out the flames that had engulfed a warehouse on the outskirts of Milan, where mostly immigrants were staying, their attention was drawn to a small wooden door inside the warehouse. It had been secured with a thick chain and a padlock. When the firefighters asked for the door to be opened, a 27-year-old man, who turned out to be from Albania, replied, “It’s nothing important, because there’s nothing in there.” But it did not take long for the firefighters’ curiosity and persistence to overcome the Albanian, who had by then aroused their suspicions. The mysterious door was opened and, as expected, what they found fully justified the curiosity of the “firefighters.” In the cell visible behind the door were four ragged minors who, like most of the warehouse’s inhabitants, had come from Albania. They were between 10 and 17 years old. They had been forcibly brought to Italy nearly four years earlier and spent all day “working” at traffic lights, begging, like many of their peers. The children were taken to a community where they will live normally for a while, while their “owner,” 27-year-old Ismet Malocaj, was arrested.

Every day dozens of people return, mainly from the Librazhd areas, and they are somewhat reluctant to speak, unlike those returning from Greece. Those under the age of 17 are fortunate enough to be sent back, while the others, according to the returnees, are held in Ohrid Prison.
