Suli, the Government’s challenge

The gang leader of the well-known doctor [?] became famous after, through a statement in the newspaper “Koha Jonë”, he threatened three prosecutors with death. After our newspaper published it yesterday, the Albanian government decided to send a special unit to Elbasan for his arrest. Such a blockade lasted until after 28 hours. Arrested [?] ... At 5 p.m. yesterday, the law-enforcement structures, which had blocked the entrances to the neighborhood where he lives, carried out the operation to handcuff him. This was achieved, even though he and his men resisted with weapons. The Albanian state is showing that gangs, and not the government, cannot make the law through threats against judges and prosecutors. In the search for Suli’s capture, Albanian special forces have also been involved, along with many police and law-enforcement units. In an interview we publish today with the well-known doctor, to the question: “Why do you seek and call Suli a bandit?”, he replied: “The Albanian state must establish justice.” In this spirit, the law-enforcement forces acted by arresting yesterday in Elbasan the city’s best-known gang leader. It is believed that some time ago Suli had collaborated with certain segments of the police, which enabled him to evade arrest for a long time. In this challenge, the Albanian government has given its own answer. Koha Jonë, 5–6 months ago, published in full the testimony of the well-known doctor regarding his threats, precisely about this person. Later, after repeated threats against prosecutors, judges, and officials, the file for his criminal prosecution was opened. According to the initial information, there were also injured people during yesterday’s resistance. The official bodies still need to clarify the full balance sheet of the operation.
