With a final outcome, after a tense week, following the repeated statements and consultations of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Pandeli Majko, it seems that the majority in Albania is sewing the “new suit,” and this Thursday evening the new government was being put together according to the orders of the three leaders of the coalition parties. This government too, like the others since ’97, is a coalition one, but perhaps for the first time, more a government of the coalition “parties” than a government of the prime minister. This became clear in the morning with the socialist leader Nano, both first and second and the closest to the new government, as well as with a group of MPs and ministers who had now come out in defense of the socialist Arben Malaj, who was excluded from the government. As was done yesterday, following the constitutional procedures, the prime minister went to the presidency together with the number two of the SP, Pandeli Majko, presenting the cabinet. Everything seemed settled, but not for long, when in the corridors of the Presidency the battle for posts began. It started with the prophecies of the coalition parties about the division of ministries and the replacement of ministers. Meanwhile, a group of MPs and ministers arrived at the Presidency, opposing the prime minister’s scheme. They were the most vocal in defense of Arben Malaj, while those from the PAD were demanding their own posts. After this moment, things returned to square one. There was talk of a meeting at the Presidency with the prime minister and several leaders of the coalition parties to grant the requested posts. Then the situation got out of control and the corridors filled up with MPs, ministers, and people waiting to hear the final list. By noon it became clear that the new government would not be presented today either. The main dilemma focused on the ministries, where the socialists sought to retain key posts, while the coalition partners insisted on greater representation. Among the names that circulated for the new cabinet were also well-known figures from the SP and its allies. In the final version, which took shape in the evening, the new list was expected to go again to the Presidency for decree.
