The morality of the engineers
An old problem with political renewal. From the first renewal of 8 Oorit 1990, in Shkodër, acts of vandalism were recorded, hidden under civic indignation dressed as anti-occupation resistance. Ismail Kadare wrote about the Tirana boys of “Intelektuali” against the winners of the Ball Games. (I was one of them and I wanted to misread it in order to avoid a stain on my professional biography.) It is enough to look up September 1990 in a library. The sofa in the home of an antique instrument cost more than 1,000 German marks of the time. The house of the composer Simon Gjoni, furnished with valuable furniture and paintings, was destroyed with punches and kicks worth 700,000 marks. That is how much an absurd revolt cost, if we are to believe the injured person. But the government of that time remained silent. They gave it a political connotation, fabricated as of 4 hours earlier. During the hunger strike days, in the city where the anthem of democracy was sung, events took incomprehensible forms. The grapevines of the directorates moved under the eyes installed by the former Sigurimi in the city center. If there are still honest people in Albania today, they cannot forget the protests that day, raised not only against the persecutors, but also against the ugly displays of the crowd. The professor who taught literature and civilization and who accused no one, but only the manifestation of evil phenomena, was beaten with sticks in the middle of the city. His book “Jeta në qafë të botës” and others were wielded against him with sticks. The affairs of the city descended into hatred and revulsion, while in a heap and on blocks people shouted for Milošević and fought violence with iron bars. From the process, even today, the brazen suspicions of the former Sigurimi are not disappearing, that there was supposedly “the hand of Yugoslavia” there, as the quick line that the chief and instigator of democratic life in such a case throws out, will not always be justified before the world and others. At least by the result achieved. The student strike that has been taking place for days at the University of Shkodër has a clear political character. There has been talk and there is talk about the partisanship of this student movement, but if we are dealing with such a manifestation, our people do not accept it as such, because in this republic the basic movement is the lack of wisdom of the Albanian people, with a position of 6 professor. The professor suspended the hand he was raising into a fist, and gave a clenched hand with threats and insults to a student. Thousands of Albanians have become aware of it in the city; the subject “mjologji” is also criminally examined to come up with lessons using sticks and insults to the student, tearing him out of the hall. Straightening the classification in a protest is suicide as an argument. In this case, students were beaten on school premises, the windshield of the rector’s car was smashed, the national flag was burned, and two cars remained untouched on the side. This speaks of a malicious organized purpose, which cannot hide behind the word “spontaneity.” It is not the first time in Shkodër that a social or political conflict degenerates into symbolic and material violence. This is part of a bitter tradition that does no one any credit.
