Agolli: I am not backing down

"If Nano keeps going like this, he is a failure" “If Nano keeps going like this, he is a failure” Government shake-up BY FROK ÇUPI What do we mean? There is a dividing line between the current style of governing, from which comes the subtext of the phrase—that Albanians are worried about the way the country is being run—and a new spirit, formulated with a new principle of government: these good men are there for work, like everyone else from the people, but not with a governing style that, until today, cannot stand. There has been intelligence in government, there have been Albanians who have governed with mind and culture; but there has been much more of what we have hated: the manipulation of ordinary people and the ignoring of the cultured strata, or even the loss of the general interest and the national interest. The walls of government must not be “secret”, or some “lonely tower”; on the contrary, they are ears and eyes. They must hear criticism of themselves, extend to the full reach of public thought and broaden their view. Such is the real slogan of the “declassification” of the Albanian state and, for this, rotation up to the prime minister, but also precise tolerance to ensure freedom of expression and freedom of the democratic governance of the country. Parliament is muddling the problems we are focusing on. The overwhelming majority has entered, seeming to threaten the party. Yet the government and the voters asked for it. The most important part of the government-parliament relationship has developed around the idea that power can only be understood as work. Or, differently put, the government cannot receive its reward for this mission, or in opposition to the government. These people must be in a true relationship, and another thing: if the rulers are to be exemplary in their dealings with civil society. If the ministers treat people like “mud”, their example will extend all the way to Parliament and to power. These are the lessons of a hope. There is a person who would say that the rulers should continue on the right path, but in fact this article, and many other things as well, leaves a clear appeal: change the way of governing, or change yourselves! This is not some opposition to the prime minister; on the contrary, it is an indication that the prime minister is understanding that he needs to be surrounded by other people. If the government continues with this mindset, Albania becomes a hopeless country and politicians are placed in the wrong place. This is a new calculation for politics. The parties, power and opposition must find in this dialogue another way, or feel that governing is a burden imposed by law and not a privilege. If a leader continues like this, he is a failure.
