No one can now evade medicine, just as that place called Serbia can no longer evade it. In a similar operation, other strike forces of the Alliance have destroyed an air base and a military field belonging to the Serbs. More than 100 missiles have again hit Serbian army targets throughout Yugoslavia. The chain of explosions that NATO had been following continued with intensity last night, when heavy B-52 bombers were involved for the first time. The destruction of the main Serbian airfields was the aim of last night’s attacks. According to a statement by the Pentagon spokesman, at least 50 fighter aircraft attacked Slatina airport near Prishtina and the military airfields in Uzhice and Batajnica. In addition to the overnight air strikes, in the early hours of the morning more than 40 Tomahawk missiles were launched from American warships stationed in the Adriatic. NATO’s operational command in Brussels announced that armed European fighter aircraft carried out 15 missions during the night. Because of the fog and unsuitable conditions, the Alliance suspended the air intervention for several hours. It is understood that the main target of the attacks is the Serbian army’s communications network as well as its attack stations in various parts of Kosovo. The situation in the country has worsened hour by hour, especially in Prishtina, where the city has been left in total darkness. This was confirmed by NATO spokesman Jamie Shea, who said that 15 radar systems had been blown up and a large number of communications systems damaged. The Belgrade airfield is also blocked. NATO is preparing to bring Stealth aircraft into action. German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer declared that the situation is dramatic. Military attacks have also been met by the closure of the Albanian borders, while the Serbian government is increasing its control measures. To compensate for the lack of radar and the protective shield, their forces have begun to plant and monitor small towns, such as bridges and the remaining open roads, temporary power stations and fuel depots. NATO states that the military operation will continue without interruption, but the first actions signal that the second phase of the operation may begin very soon. Bearing in mind that other parts of the missiles are increasing throughout western Kosovo, these attacks last night destroyed several important military facilities, including four Serbian army headquarters. In the Serbian language it has been used as a new scenario in Kosovo by the supreme court and is being used to make it more difficult for them to be expelled by the Alliance’s ground forces. Under NATO’s scenario, Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic would declare a false victory in order not to pay war damages and after the losses of cooperation. The Alliance has announced that it will not stop its actions until Milosevic himself gives up the campaign against Albanians and accepts the peace conditions imposed by the international community. The rise of the second war in the region turns it from a crisis into a broad regional threat, returning to the first phase of the war in Bosnia.
