Meta offers friendship to Italy

Before even taking his seat as head of government, Prime Minister Ilir Meta arrives in Rome at the invitation of his Italian counterpart Massimo D’Alema to visit the country. On the 4th of this month, our prime minister was on another visit, while the Italian prime minister’s invitation is a highly meaningful signal for our neighboring relations, and for the government of the Socialist Party. From the first announcements of the new government, a perspective in this field has emerged, which will be confirmed without delay and which in Albania is spoken of as proposals. It is understandable that for Albanians the economic difficulties of this time also favor their interests. Placed within the left-wing polarity, the new government led by Ilir Meta is understood by circles as a choice, and his visit to Italy is interpreted as not without problems for Ilir Meta’s image in domestic politics. Albania presents a significant risk for trafficking for Italy, since it is in the vicinity oriented toward Italy. Yet our prime minister Massimo D’Alema has been positive. To understand this relationship, the year 1997 and the operation “Alba,” as well as the confirmation of the government’s interest in the successful outcome of the country, should be noted. It is also important in the assessment of the government’s success. For Albanians, Rome has been an important signal, and Italy’s celebration of a significant victory has been lively. But Italy’s help for reform and its orientation toward Albanian operations remains necessary. And with these occasion greetings have also come Italy’s orientations. Meanwhile, the new government headed by Ilir Meta is seen by circles as a choice, and his visit to Italy is interpreted as not without problems for Ilir Meta’s image in domestic politics. For Albanians this is positive and also guides Italians in times of crisis such as in 1997 or the “Alba” operation, as well as confirming good relations. In this context, from the Italian government’s side, as stated in advance by the participants in the earlier meeting, it is guaranteed that Albania will have great importance in relations with Italy during the Kosovo crisis. Rome has always had high regard for our government’s efforts to stabilize the situation in the country. And the mention of this at the PS congress with Mr. Majko on the part of the Albanian government is being taken into account for governing the country in other ways. While in the current developments, with no changes, Italy as the first partner country for foreign investment, especially trade-favored, and also the EU, creates and links itself with its counterpart, while such a country for Albania offers in this respect, we can say that Rome still sets up an intermediate station on the road linking Tirana with Washington, Meta offers friendship to Italy Before even taking his seat as head of government, Prime Minister Ilir Meta arrives from the side of his Italian counterpart Massimo D’Alema to visit the country.
