France to Nano: We support your changes in government
“No foreign state or ambassador has the right to dictate Albanian politics”
The French ambassador in Tirana met yesterday with socialist leader Nano and promised support for even better governance

One of the cards played by Prime Minister Majko in his clash both with power and with the party was the 70-to-30 formula. This division formed the core of the new governing coalition, “inherited” by his successor. It referred to the names that the Socialist Party would take in the new government in relation to the joint allies. Thus, 30 percent was also set aside for Majko, but the signature on all the orders envisaged that the whole job would be filled with names of advisers and assistants from staffs with personalist tendencies, as well as individuals close to him, appointed with the direct and excessive approval of Prime Minister Majko. That was the reason why, on the eve of the congress, Majko called on the allies to soften this claim publicly, and even the full external essence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in case of other closure [?] to you. Fatos Nano was mentioned here and there, a “late prophet,” suggesting that the offices of the PS had neglected him. After the remarks of opposition leader Ilir Meta, he too spoke out against the institutions of state indifference. Meanwhile, “I do not surrender,” said the head of government in his latest statement, also underlining the diplomats who had shown solidarity with him. The popular saying “where the grain went, it was covered and had gathered the cards of the defeated” and when this is imagined in the challenge, it had to be done in cooperation with the head of state.
A day and a half after the departure of Nano's government, the French ambassador in Tirana, sent urgently from Paris, Hygo [?], held a meeting yesterday with Nano. In the office of the latter, the French diplomats discussed the government crisis and possible changes in the forthcoming new cabinet of the PS, but they also stressed the fact that France and the countries of the European Union do not agree with the inclusion of communists in the new government. The deputy leader of the PS, Servet Pëllumbi, was present among the dignitaries and chairmen in this context, entering the door as an important figure in this meeting. In this meeting, they discussed bringing in the former ministers Luan Hajdaraga and Kastriot Islami in order to give a more unifying force to the forthcoming government. They also discussed finding the right basis for the institution of the General Assembly of the PS, for which it is also clearly evident that it is arranged within the party. Regarding this meeting with Nano, it was made known that French diplomacy has endorsed this suggestion and is cooperating with the “Krasniqi” cabinet to be revitalized through reform and rights to be included in all major institutions without halting the peace dialogue. In all likelihood, the French ambassador in Albania, Henri [?] [?], will soon have a meeting with opposition leader Berisha, but this remains unapproved for now. Their goal is today’s meeting with the senior leaders of the Albanian state and the leaders of the main parties to help calm the political situation. The French have asked for a stable majority and modernization of the new cabinet, suggesting to Nano that the government should have people of integrity and “modern conditions”
