"Meta"’s determination

Although in the unusual shifts of pluralism, the first prime minister to see ministers leave him, whether dismissed or not, did not hesitate at all to weigh the two-part formula of government. At least those who know Ilir Meta closely say that he is a determined man. Perhaps the masterpiece of this decision was the dismissal of the interior minister and one of the "strong men" of his cabinet, Spartak Poci. Few had imagined something like this. For many, this move may have come like a bomb because of how surprising it was. There are even those who call it unheard of for a prime minister to do such a thing, when he has taken it to the point of a parallel beginning. Unlike his predecessors, he is not yet tired of reforms and is waiting for a strong figure to tackle the chaotic situation we have in urban and intercity transport. If that were appropriate it would be different when governance arose in another context; if the third mandate of governance were more consolidated, which this year can hardly be said, he has not yet been decisive. The limits are still set by relations with the party. The government is in a new mood, in the administration and management of poverty; thus, in this old governmental fatigue there is a new energy to move toward internal control and the role of the prime minister. It is clear that his own name stands above a shaky cabinet and he has tried to bring order where confusion has taken hold. For this reason he is replacing names, although often with people who know them better than the names themselves, because of political closeness.

The other government

BY BLENDI FEVZIU An unexpected decision by the Prime Minister has sparked outrage and stirred up the Meta cabinet quite a bit. The resigned Hajdari, and the dismissed Muka. The surrendered Haxhia and Panda with an almost never-before-seen nervousness. These are four names that will be replaced, while numerous voices say there may be a broader reshuffle. At the height of a hot political climate in the country, a fragile and tired cabinet, with a president who does not hide his disapproval of some new names, seemed to promise a stormy summer. That is precisely what makes it draw even more attention. Meta’s steps are readable from a new angle: governance is trying to survive by reformatting itself. Some of the ministers removed were political voices, others technical names. The aim appears twofold: on the one hand, to send a message of control; on the other, to avoid confrontation at a time when relations with the Presidency are strained. If Panda remains the main point of conflict, then the game may shift from the cabinet to the constitutional institutions. The President seems determined not to sign easily, while the Prime Minister is testing the limits of his authority. In this silent battle, the new government will be judged not only by the names, but by its ability to produce stability. (continued on page 2)
