By MARTIN LEKA Where five years ago, enraged, Shehri declared to the newspaper with the biggest circulation: “Slander! They are fabrications! It is unimaginable,” he, instead of baring his teeth and swallowing the “Rugan nonsense,” is now trying to prepare himself to be a different fellow today as the “drama” of Albanian politics moves westward. For 28 straight hours, amid the clatter of the state machine, with the splendor of Skanderbeg-like hyper-morals, the shadow of the presidential guard, and the stench of “Qenremi,” Shehri kissed the screen in amazement. 28 hours at the doors, running, without fuel and with cold blood. Without the scheduled appearance of a man he knows well. Why? Who knows. In each television appearance from 24 to 48? and all the mechanics? In truth, on the “Sunday” and the questions? Who knows! He mixed everyone up with contradictory stones. On Monday, in the speech from the Islamic minaret; on Tuesday, in the preaching gotoger called it a condemnation of their governing morality, regardless of the greed to transform Albania from one side to the other. On Wednesday, confused by the noise of his militants, on Thursday, a day later, he thought he would make a great turn to become richer, and the wave of disappointment engulfed him. He felt the pain of a change that lifted him a little only to make him fall more painfully, to entangle him in knots. This is the other side of hard politics. All parties that stand on politics and preaching must accept it while remaining independent. This painful truth is also happening with his party. Now the time has come for history, not only of this country, but of all Albanian political thought, to be written in a completely different direction. And when not so long ago the government’s ditch was the main obstacle to two newspaper men, despite the voices of legal justice, militancy has done its work and has even given shape to the usual sadness. This is one of the reasons why citizens can no longer remain indifferent. And it remains so, knowing that meanness is not addressed with slogans. Besides, even earlier, with the wisdom of the orange, they would speak, in days with the same zeal and the same means; it shows that respect for and of the city cannot fall. The time has come to understand that the PS, Meta, that angry governance of those processes respects the law, even though it shook and threw it into confusion not long after. This is so important that it shows that not everyone remembers to win every battle. Others understand that even defeat would be better than a victory over principles. All this, more than creating new illusions among the militants, has given a simple lesson: the politics of men must be brought to light by reality, not by noise. Likewise, for the first time, beyond every allusion and beyond every rhetoric, it seems that Albania still has people who think differently, who are not frightened by assemblies and do not wait to win from shouting. That is no small thing. It is perhaps a beginning.
