"ZP" LIES ACCORDING TO ITS 50-YEAR-OLD CUSTOM
What is the truth? Another lie! Not a victim of bread queues
The article about this scandalous matter [?] is on pages 4-5. On 16.8, in its article entitled “Behave like human beings,” ZP attacks the newspaper “Rilindja Demokratike” and tries to present a tragic case as a result of bread queues. According to the explanation given here, the person in question, Mr. Ylli Shehu, died from health reasons and not as a victim of queues. It is emphasized that he had been ill and that the doctors provided emergency assistance, but could not save him. The article accuses “Zëri i Popullit” of fabrication and manipulation of public opinion, continuing, according to the author, the old tradition of distorting the truth. The text also mentions the circumstances of the घटना, the testimony of people near the scene, and the rejection of the propagandistic interpretation. Large parts of the image columns remain unreadable.[?]
Democracy will win
1. Jansen and Sofia
[?] The visit to Italy by the chairman of the Democratic Party, Mr. Eduard Selami, made a great impact in Italian politics and the press. Many newspapers and magazines devoted special space to this visit. Below we present several articles translated especially for this occasion. These articles show the conviction that the democratic process, despite difficulties, is irreversible. At a time when our country is emerging from isolation and seeking the path of reforms, international support and the attention of the Western press take on special importance. The article stresses that Albania is taking firm steps toward democratic institutions and a market economy. It also emphasizes the role of the Democratic Party in the recent political changes and in efforts for stability. What is the truth?
Zëri i Popullit, on 16 August 1992, in an article entitled “Behave like human beings,” unjustly accuses the newspaper “Rilindja Demokratike” of having spread false news concerning the death of a citizen. The truth is completely different. Mr. Ylli Shehu, the person in question, did not die as a result of bread queues, but from an illness and a serious health condition. Numerous witnesses, as well as his relatives, have stated that the event was deliberately distorted for propaganda purposes. Instead of apologizing for this manipulation, “ZP” continues in the same spirit of fabrication. The full article continues on pages 4-5.[?]
