DUKAGJIN HATA The history of anti-reforms and anti-reformers is as old as political malice itself, as old as jealousy and rampant ego. In Albania, this history is approaching half a century, and its partisans are representatives of the old political class, the communists and neocommunists who have usurped the PS leadership. In 1991 they turned the country into a half-ruined heap of smoke and rubble. Since then, all their practices of thought and action have demonstrated their destructive, lawless and anti-reform platform. Their propaganda about reform and support for democratic developments is demagoguery through and through, because in one hand they wave the flags of civilization and democracy, while in the other they hold and serve up Marxist theses. On the one hand, they tell the world that we are different, that we have changed and become reasonable; on the other, they want to show the clans linked to them, those compromised by the past, that revisionism as the hope of a minority still lives, and that their dream of restoring the lost paradise survives. The neocommunist staff directing the PS is mired in a moral and political collapse; driven mad by the fact that Albania is experiencing a real economic and political boom without them at the helm, they launch unprecedented attacks, call white black, democracy dictatorship, and the rule of law political bayraktarism. What do the delirious minds of the poly-tubrist fathers, the extremists of the left-wing pole, not invent in order to smear democracy, reforms and the values of freedom? Their newspaper, bearing a title inherited from the time of the great red calamity, a newspaper running on ideological fuel, sings the praises of the Dictator and dictatorship, implying that Albania is not ready for democracy, a market economy or institutions safeguarding individual freedom. This newspaper goes so far as to justify, in the most malicious and sophisticated way, the crime of April 2, 1991 in Shkoder; it calls March 22, 1992 a day of lost opportunity, when Albanians will remember that day as the day hope was reborn and dreams of another life were renewed. The Socialist Party, the Anti-Reform Party, thus displays the old credos of the PP dressed in a new suit, presenting itself to people like clowns in a miserable [unclear] without a salary, [unclear]. Its Marxist lecturers toil in vain to convince people that they are different, that they have changed; Albanians know them as incorrigible demagogues, as anti-reformers who weigh heavily on anti-reformism, which, fortunately for them, has been [unclear] under the irreversible name of Albanian history.

From the meetings of the DPA delegation in Brussels During the proceedings of the interparliamentary conference of the group of the European People’s Parties, the Christian Democrat Union and the Democratic Union of Europe, a delegation of the DPA, headed by Mr. Tritan Shehu and comprising Mr. Bashkim Kopliku and Tonin Alimehilli, is also taking part, having been invited by the leadership of this group. The meeting addressed the issues of the enlargement of the European Union, strengthening parliamentary democracy in member countries, relations between the European Parliament and national parliaments, as well as other internal issues of the European People’s Parties and the European Union connected with the 1996 Intergovernmental Conference. During the proceedings of this meeting, the DP delegation held a series of highly productive bilateral meetings concerning Albania’s integration into its structures and its full membership in them. Among these meetings were those with Mr. Wilfried Martens, former Prime Minister of Belgium and President of the European People’s Parties and the Christian Democrat Union; Mr. Klaus Welle, Secretary-General of this organization; its Vice-President Wim Van Velzen; and other important leaders. These meetings will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the further development of relations between our two parliaments.
