At the latest meeting of the PD Librazhd presidency, the commitments of the branches, the expansion of contacts with citizens and the need to increase the role of the leading forums at all levels were discussed. It was emphasized that political work must be accompanied by concrete results on the ground, with a greater presence in rural areas and with the involvement of young people and women in the life of the party. The presidency գնահատed the experience so far and asked that it be deepened further, especially in terms of communication with the electorate and confronting the opposition’s propaganda. The discussions also mentioned PSSH’s efforts to create artificial tension in public opinion and to hinder the climate of reforms. According to the speakers, these attempts will not affect the pace of work of the PD structures. The meeting ended with the decision to intensify political activity in the coming months and to strengthen ties with the membership.

After barely winning votes on the pretext of the danger of splitting the left-wing vote, the PSSH continues its offensive, trying to recreate in Albanians the psychology of a dark period in our history. Through its propaganda, PSSH is trying to create the idea that democracy has failed, that Albanians are tired of freedom, that the country needs the iron order of the past. In recent months PSSH has launched a veritable nostalgic campaign for communism. It has put part of its own press, old and new analysts, publications and daily statements at the service of this campaign. In this context, the cartoons and writings that attack government figures, that mock the free market, private property and reform efforts, should also be seen. Their goal is clear: to make people believe that the time of dictatorship was supposedly calmer, that the old order was better than today’s freedom. But Albanians cannot forget what that time really was: poverty, isolation, fear and violence. Any attempt to beautify that period is an insult to the victims and a danger to the future. PSSH cannot present itself as a modern force while feeding old myths and a spirit of division. Albania needs development, free institutions, a market economy and political responsibility. The public opinion must be attentive to this manipulation. Democracy is not perfect, but it remains the only way forward. Cartoon with a soldier figure and caption in a speech bubble.

In yesterday’s issue of this newspaper, a ridiculous cartoon once again took its cue from a statement by the PSSH spokesperson and threw mud at the government. Not only that. The author of the cartoon has shamelessly appropriated a language and a spirit that recalls the publications of the dictatorship years. With a low propagandistic tone, he tries to revive class hatred and incitement against the political opponent. This kind of satire is not humor, but a sign of an old mentality. The newspaper that publishes it still carries the shadow of the past and fails to understand that democracy is not built with slander and offensive cartoons. Instead of dealing with the real problems of citizens, it chooses to invent scenes and distort facts. This shows poverty of ideas and lack of arguments. Albanians need honest debate, not poisoning public life with primitive attacks. Anyone who returns to this language does harm to political culture and to the democratic future of the country.
