Communists, isolated at home and in rebellion

Armed bands are blocking the roads. The capital is suffering from queues for bread and water, while banks, schools and shops remain closed. The situation is dramatic. The communists who inspired the rebellion and seek to return to power appear to have already reached a dead end. Yesterday, with their militant forces, they tried to organize an anti-government rally in Tirana, with which they aimed to legitimize the serious consequences of the unrest. But this equally noisy demonstration was also proof of their failure. A large part of the citizens refused to take part. The protest took place in an atmosphere of tension and fear. In the city streets, armed groups could be seen, while the black market and the lack of order were worsening people’s daily lives. The communists, left without broad popular support, are trying to use violence as a means of political pressure.
