Deputy Azem Hajdari yesterday drove a cart over the spot where two years ago five bullets were fired at him, from which God fortunately saved him from death. Right there, where he was shot to death, he exposed the true authors of the plot to murder the December leader and, soon afterward, the leader of the Democratic Party as well. A survivor yesterday stunned the two leaders of the criminal parliament, where the gravest political crime against today’s Albanian opposition was devised and carried out. Azem Hajdari said yesterday from the rostrum of the People’s Assembly that the people who directed the bullets at him were the principal leaders of today’s Albanian state: “President Rexhep Meidani, Prime Minister Fatos Nano, and the two parliamentary leaders, Skënder Gjinushi and Namik Dokle.” He confronted the crime face to face, a crime whose full extent had not occurred to him until the end, and showed Albanians that they must no longer place any hope in the parliament of criminals, gangs, and Kalashnikovs; in the leaders of today’s state, who took their seats over corpses; or in deputies who reached the Albanian temple through crime, arson, and destruction. Yesterday Hajdari spat… at parliament—Hajdarini spat on the parliament of criminals. Outside it, thousands of people did the same, as they have done for two weeks running in “Skënderbej” Square. And far from parliament, throughout Albania, people have understood that this parliament does not belong to them. It belongs to the gangs, arsonists, and criminals who have also taken a deputy’s mandate. Yesterday, crime faced its victim, but the defeated also faced the victor. The Communists are defeated; democracy is victorious. Yesterday Hajdari’s wounds weighed more heavily than ever before. They passed through them—not like bullets that might even spare the bodies of all the criminals still occupying seats in Parliament. They pierced the bodies of Gjinushi and Dokle, Nano and Majko, and would not spare them. The sentence is clear: they must leave the leadership of the country as soon as possible—as the defeated, as criminals, as political terrorists, as violators of the law, as murderers of the opposition. Yesterday the Albanian Parliament was disgraced. Every one of those seated there yesterday carried the heavy burden of the murder. Each is a greater or lesser participant in the political crime against PD deputy Azem Hajdari. Anyone who does not feel this burden must leave it, as the most despicable of all, leaving only the criminals behind until popular protest drives them once and for all from the nation’s sacred place. It is the duty of all honest deputies to distance themselves from crime. This is the time for hope to speak in this country, but hope cannot come as long as people who kill, burn, set fires, and commit violence sit in Parliament. As long as Skënder Gjinushi and Namik Dokle, Maksim Hasani and Eduart Alushi, Vladimir Fejzo and Luiza Xhoxha are there; as long as Fatos Nano comes there as prime minister and Rexhep Meidani as president. Albanians must beware of their own deputies. Today they are in danger precisely from those who took their votes and may also take their freedom. They are in danger from those in uniform, behind whom stand all the destruction, abuse, killings, and burnings inflicted on Albania over these past four months.

His statement yesterday showed that it was the disfigured, common criminal who met with Ollbrajt and Kinkel—the man who, although he has been booed at every meeting for what he has done to Albania, uses the language of hatred and thuggery toward the opposition. His political opponents have no reason to answer the prime minister of the gangs. His street companions could tell you that he is ready to sell his mother, his wife, his sister—and even, as drug traffickers say, his daughter—not for political principles, but simply for drugs and smuggling.
