Together in the Anti-Dictatorship League
The right, trade unions and associations in intensive talks to unify their efforts to bring down the criminal regime of Fatos Nano
Albania risks suspension from the Council of Europe
Tirana will hold the protest tomorrow at 11:00
The right, trade unions and associations are in intensive talks to unify their efforts against the regime of Fatos Nano. The League of Independent Trade Unions, led by political prisoner Niko Bulo, issued a call yesterday from prison for joint action. All anti-communist parties as well as all associations have been invited to a political action on 26 February 1998 to protest against the dictatorship of the prosecutors. This movement appears to have alarmed the government, which has taken measures to stop it. Yesterday’s government meeting chaired by Fatos Nano decided to block financial resources for the independent trade unions and asked for police intervention to prevent the rally. According to statements by the opposition and the organizers, the protest will take place in Tirana tomorrow at 11:00.

Today, at the beginning of this issue, the speeches by Ali Spahiu as Azem’s brother have been published in full. In his note he writes a symbolism in which, through Azem’s words, he describes a shattered spirit. He writes: "Azem! Your path and the steadfastness that inspired every person in the face of anyone who sought to extinguish the spirit of the free human being have left an indelible gloom in thousands of hearts. He is convinced that, as you wished, the future of Albanians and of Albania will be with our homeland and in the implementation of the ideals of freedom and democracy. The dream and vision of a prosperous homeland will always remain in our minds".

The opposition is being killed at home
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe agrees to examine the suspension of the Albanian delegation
Under pressure from the regime’s crazed ambassador in Strasbourg, Vasilis Kaskarelis, and from Edi Rama, the left-wing deputies of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe yesterday opposed examining the Albania case. However, the majority agreed that the issue should be placed on the agenda.
The debate concerns the situation of the opposition in Albania and the demands for suspending the Albanian delegation after the recent political developments.
