On Saturday, everyone to the big protest against the dictatorship of the century
The Democratic Women’s League, the Youth Forum of the Democratic Party, the Intellectuals’ Forum, the Association of Politically Persecuted Persons, the Association "Anti-communists of Resistance", etc., on Saturday at 11:00 organize a major protest in the center of Tirana against this government, against this police state, against this dictatorship. Their call to all sectors of the right-wing electorate, and to other citizens as well, is strong and highly timely. This government and this prime minister are trying at any cost to remain in power. By force. Through the police. With money. With slander and blackmail. They have shut Albania off with fine words, with deceitful lies, with empty propaganda. The time has come to react with civic courage in the face of this great evil. The time has come for a democratic, peaceful, and massive protest.
If Albanians truly want to bring down this government, if they truly want to save the country from political and economic catastrophe, they must rise up, unite, and protest forcefully. This is the call of the opposition and of all free society.
Durrës again against Nano
Durrës: "The League against the Dictatorship", the powerful front of the anti-communist people against Nano’s dictatorship
Announcements for Saturday’s protest, 25.02.1998 at 11:00 in the city square, have reignited the political atmosphere in Durrës. Opposition forces and citizens have mobilized for broad participation against Fatos Nano’s government.
According to the organizers, the rally aims to show that Durrës does not accept the return of the police state and demands free elections, constitutional order, and respect for the opposition.

Chief policeman Nano strikes the opposition again
Last night’s arrests of Spahia, Shehu and Hoxha will further intensify the situation in Albania. The police state showed itself clearly late last night when police and SHIK forces arrested the leader of the legalists Ekrem Spahia, Colonel Sali Shehu, former commander of the Republic Guard during the rule of the Democratic Party, as well as former commander of the special forces Fatos Hoxha. All three, highly known military figures in public, last year, mainly Colonel Shehu and special forces commander Hoxha, had a very important role in preventing civil war in Albania.
Prime Minister Nano, the self-styled "pacifist of Albania", has now embarked on a dangerous course, with a clearly anti-democratic and anti-opposition emphasis. By using the police as a political tool to strike at opposition leaders and figures, he is sending the country a clear message of intimidation. Such an action does not contribute to the stability of the country; on the contrary, it increases polarization and political tension.

Nano blocks the Council of Europe resolution
The leaders of the PPD and the PSA applied pressure on the positions of the United States and Italy for resolving the crisis in Albania
It was completely clear that the majority and Fatos Nano’s socialist government were doing everything possible to drag out and distort the international debate on the Albanian crisis. Through its representatives in Strasbourg, it tried to influence the wording of the resolution and avoid any direct criticism of the government.
However, the positions of the other delegations and the intervention of the opposition made it possible for the Albanian issue to be dealt with seriously and for the need for free elections, respect for the opposition, and the restoration of the rule of law to be underlined.
