The mafia state continues the violence against journalists of “RD”
Government pressure on the newspaper “Rilindja Demokratike” continues. Yesterday, at the investigative bodies in Tirana, editor Migjen Demirxhi was summoned to a question-and-answer session concerning a charge brought against him by the Minister of Finance, Arben Malaj. Also yesterday, the Tirana court received a request for a court hearing against the “RD” journalist Edi Paloka because of a complaint by the Minister of the Interior, Neritan Ceka.
Within just one week, the news editor has experienced the cells of the Durrës Police Station while on duty and, after that, a threat from criminal elements in the middle of the night at his home.
This whole anti-RD campaign by government officials aims to frighten and silence opposition journalists. Such a campaign has taken on unimaginable proportions, especially in the last two months. A series of lawsuits and phone threats have targeted the free word and free thought, as well as the correct and verified information of “RD”.

The facts presented in his article concerning a bank account opened in Brussels were published only a day earlier in an article in another daily in Tirana. Propaganda justifies crime
State media criminalizes Albanians
State media operates with the same standard of victimization and the lack of professionalism that, more than ever today, targets the victim of state terror, Bujar Suli. The entire left-wing press and state media can spread to thousands of people the opinion of the Albanian Ministry of the Interior according to which “Suli was a criminal and a person wanted by the police”. As has become the harsh habit of this kind of government official, every unlawful action by the government and the mafia is justified by a state mask. Meidani challenges Nano
Only some of Nano’s appointments were decreed yesterday by Meidani. In the decree signed by Meidani, the dismissals of Ceka as Minister of the Interior and the post of deputy minister of Order for [?] are included
The other names, whether dismissed or appointed, must still wait. This second challenge by Meidani to Fatos Nano, by keeping the people appointed by him hanging, even if just for a little longer, shows that the President likes to make a bit of fun of the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, sources close to the President have confirmed that Meidani justifies his refusal regarding the government with the movable names centered around Bashkim Fino. Nano’s appointment of Fino to the post of deputy prime minister, while Meidani had asked that he not be in the Nano 4 cabinet, seems to be the main reason for the delay in signing Nano’s names.
Yesterday Meidani also summoned and monitored the ministers who were moved to the new job from the empty cabinet, shifting Nano’s name.
Meanwhile, the failure to release Brokaj from his duty as Minister of Defense, with a letter in an order document, cannot be, because Nano has already received the approval of his party to remove him.
Meidani’s refusal to sign the new names offered by Nano on the pretext that he is studying them, in itself constitutes a new absurdity.
Today, Talbott in Tirana
The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Strobe Talbott, is expected to visit Tirana today at the head of a U.S. government delegation, which includes Ambassador Robert Gelbard and the Special Advisor to the President for Bosnia, James Obrien, security coordinator [NSC].
Official sources said the American delegation will discuss with the Albanian authorities the situation in Kosovo and the prospects for starting the Demaçi-Millosheviç dialogue. Talbott’s schedule also includes a meeting with President Meidani, Prime Minister Nano and Foreign Minister Paskal Milo.
