The mad and drunken rivals

EDITORIAL Nano has stated that with his accession to the head of the party, there will also be changes in the government, which means another prime minister, while Majko’s victory would lead to the departure of the ministers who have remained in his cabinet since the former prime minister’s fifth government. This seems to be the main reason the contest between the candidates has become so heated, with neither side holding back from using the harshest language—the kind that should only be heard in clubs. Meanwhile, Majko himself never misses an opportunity to remind Nano of his flight on 14 September from Tirana to Shkup, accompanied by one of Albania’s best-known gangs on page 3

The government protects Azem Hajdari’s killers

Today, 376 days since the murder of the December Leader Every day that passes since the murder of Azem Hajdari, the symbol of democracy and pluralism, proves the involvement of Fatos Nano’s government and its successors in the crime that shook the entire Albanian world. The government of the former communists, which leaves free and unpunished the criminals who killed the December Leader, shows Albanians that it was and is on the side of the killers, whose names are known but who are not brought to justice by those in power. Democrats and all Albanians who bear witness to and honor Azem Hajdari cannot under any circumstances tolerate this fact. The government must either apprehend the criminals and bring them to justice, or publicly declare that it was itself that carried out the murder of Azem Hajdari.
