EDITORIAL By Sami NEZA The monolithic party forums through which Fatos Nano achieved success in smearing Prime Minister Pandeli Majko not only failed to mark any progressive moment in the country's life amid the current political deadlock, but for Albanians they still represent the continuation of primitive attacks on the citizen. The success of the old inquisitors also poses such a threat to Albania that it distorts the very essence of freedom, because it turns the citizen into a slave of the will of the state apparatus by means of all administrative mechanisms. In short, through the so-called choice by free vote the government itself, and Fatos Nano himself, is playing the role of chief ideologue of the platform for reformatting this system. At the heart of this exaggerated pyramid of violence, through the solidarity of force which the political clients of Nano bring with them, is the tendency to turn election campaigns into unquestioned militancy of the administration, to abandon the free vote in favor of mass voting by order. This is also the main reason for the total failure of Nano's new electoral platform, which resembles more a scheme stripped bare and rigorously implemented from communist doctrine in most cases. We are dealing with a political regime crippled in the content of its institutions, but with entirely clear aims to turn it into an instrument for forcing the free vote into its own system. on page 2
