By Saimir Pëposhi Today, everyone agrees that the country is in such a condition. Parliament, as President of the Republic Rexhep Meidani has made clear, has turned into a meaningless theatre. The basic criterion for selecting senior administrative posts, from the highest level to the lowest, for employment is militancy. And under these conditions in Kosovo, at least from next March, the building and consolidation of a new state will begin. The structure of power is moving toward completion and the existing ones will continue with governmental functions. Born after a bloody war, but with many chances for a real and functioning state and with an administration according to the models of Western countries, here in Albania there is still talk with suspicion about the role of the Prosecution, that it has served not for the coup d’état, but for organized crime and narcotics trafficking, and it is presented as the model of a dangerous pseudo-state, or it appears as decoration for a power for which now no distinction can be made any longer between crime and government. However much such demoralizing and unjustified tones, strengthened by Fatos Nano’s liberalism and that of his predecessors toward crime, banditry and corruption, may prevail, the healthy part of society and politics must understand that our country is in the greatest degradation it has ever suffered. on page 5
