The number of votes received by the Democratic Party candidate for the KLD showed that Berisha and Topalli had every reason to be concerned about the measures they took. Some people see the Muslim faith as the strong bond between the two countries. Religion is an external and superficial argument compared with the deeper reasons of a geopolitical nature. Even if it were entirely atheist, entirely Christian or Buddhist, in the geo-island configuration where Albania is located it would have, as it does, an unshakable pillar of its foreign policy: friendship with Turkey.
