Comment BY Enton Abilekaj A gift for Berisha The agreement on the joint draft was expected to pave the way for the 6 August vote on constitutional changes to limit immunity. But Majko dashed those hopes. A day earlier it was the American ambassador who could not change Rama’s decision. The walls of the Socialist Party headquarters seem more deaf. No argument gets inside. The Socialists have united in their refusal to vote on 6 August, in order to support the project for a radical change to the Constitution. The vote for the Prosecutor General and the members of the Supreme Court is, at most, a carved-out guarantee of our fight against corruption, according to the PS. Berisha is using the time given to him by the opposition to accuse him, not to convince him of his sincerity; not only because he is not sincere in the initiative he has undertaken, but also because he is not interested in opening the way to investigations into his MPs and ministers. Propaganda has taken the place of rationality, while foreign diplomats have been left alone to represent the interests of Albanians. The Socialists’ insistence on radical changes to the Constitution so that the appointment of the top leaders of the justice system is made with the votes of theirs and the Democratic Party’s does not serve the fight against corruption, but a new immunity. A Prosecutor General who made both sides vote for him is not the sides’ viewpoint, but their reason.
