The head of the LSI, Ilir Meta, has intensified his accusations against his governing ally Berisha, warning of the end of a coalition that began in 2009. BY ARBEN RROZHANI Elections... elections The European Parliament set as the only condition for Albania to obtain candidate country status for the EU the parliamentary elections of 23 June 2013. In word and image, European bureaucrats thus responded to the alibi put forward by the official Tirana for yet another failure. It was not the voting on the three laws, nor the opposition’s condition for recognizing the justice system’s immunity for Fier, that kept Albania back in class, but only the aggressive rhetoric against recognizing real multi-party pluralism in the country and the unrestrained ego that, even without votes, wants to keep power and still be accepted by Europe. Eduart Kukan, Member of the European Parliament, one of the few friends who was also present at the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of independence, emphasized yesterday that the elections are the condition and nothing else. In Tirana, the German ambassador likewise stressed the 2013 elections.
