A ship with Albanian sailors has been detained in a Yemeni port since mid-December, accused of arms trafficking that came from Serbia. The sailors, three of them Albanian, will appear again in court tomorrow, while they risk being sentenced. Comment BY PREÇ ZOGAJ The second “Referendum” without opponents Berisha yesterday put forward the idea of organizing a popular referendum after the elections on the three stalled laws of the status package. Anyone who takes this announcement seriously will feel surprised and astonished. First, because the issue of not voting on the three remaining laws is so well known, so widely debated and so sensitive for the Albanian public that, if it is not resolved by the end of the legislature, the political elections of June 23 will also deliver a popular verdict on it. What sense does a referendum after the elections make in this context on an issue already judged by the voters? None at all. Second, the deadlock created over the three laws, by its very nature, is better solved through elections. As for a referendum, I do not even know how it would be framed, since a political referendum, as a rule, asks the public to express a “yes” or “no” vote on a topic or a law where the political sides have opposing views. Regarding the three laws, PS has not said it is against them, but has linked their vote in Parliament to the solution of the problem created in the Fier regional council.
