We need an international CEC
Editorial BY EDMOND ARIZAJ We need an international CEC Only with seven foreign members in the Central Election Commission can the situation be resolved. For example, seven ambassadors, with the chair to be Estroja, or Alexandris, and members in turn to be the ambassadors of Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, etc. These are the countries that have been “stuck” with Albanian affairs for 23 years now. If they are not approved, each embassy could lend us its respective lawyer, who in that time has learned from Albanian laws and has at least read something about the electoral code. The conviction is that none of the parties would oppose such a development, although in the end we would earn the stigma of a country that cannot find seven unchallenged people and that at the end of the elections, in the end, the loser gives the hand to the winner, or at least graciously accepts defeat. What is happening is beyond all logic. Just a few weeks before the elections, the country’s highest election institution, the CEC, the one that seals the final outcome of the June 23 event, no longer exists! They have managed to draw the largest audience, even housewives who desperately find peace in soap operas. If not a legal, code, or constitutional matter, it seems to have turned simply into a matter of “spite”; you do me wrong, I’ll do you harm; you do me harm, I’ll set you on fire; you set me on fire, I’ll throw mines at you; you have me at gunpoint, I have you at cannon-point... And so, disaster after disaster, fire after fire, the situation has reached a dead end, where all sides stand their ground, the internationals too are divided into camps (even when... ► continues on page 14
