Commentary BY AFRIM KRASNIQI Politics and the religious vote At the end of 1920, the founding fathers of independence created political pluralism by founding competing political parties. In the chapter on the principles of the program of those parties it was emphasized that the use of religion for political purposes and for harming national unity constitutes “the greatest crime.” Naturally, the aim was not a direct electoral connotation but was linked to the need for political stability in the country and the avoidance of situations similar to those of 1914. Nevertheless, this article is unique in the entire history of political party programs. Relations between parties and religions, especially electoral and representative relations, have been and remain a “taboo” topic, fraught and delicate, because of many factors, some of which remain valid today. Even so, at every time and in every system, every political party and government, every ruler and form of regime has shown different preferences and models for these relations.
